WIP Wednesday: All basting all the time

It feels like it has been all basting all the time around here, but that was really just Monday night.

Since last Wednesday I have finished putting the sleeve on HST Journey and dropped it off at the gallery to be hung (the opening is Saturday, I can’t believe it!)

Finishing my sleeve!

On Saturday I also finished my Waterfront Park top, pre-washed some more backing for another Nani Iro quilt and felt relatively productive.

On Sunday I went to a sew-in with the Montgomery County Modern Quilt Guild and stitched all of my cut up Nani Iro pieces into quilt blocks and rows for the quilt that will stay with me. I was wiped out by the time I got home but I forced myself to make the back even before the top was all together. I think that’s a first for me. I hate dealing with huge sheets of fabric so I routinely put off making backing if I can help it.

Here's a first. Made the back before the top is even done. #amh #socialclimber #yesthatis9yards

The backing is 9 yards (give or take) of Anna Maria Horner Social Climber in teal. I had been saving it since last summer for something special and I’m glad I saved it for this.

On Monday in prep for the MoCo meeting on Tuesday I stitched together the Nani Iro top.

Finished nani iro top

I then started basting. I wanted to get at least the Denise Schmidt throw and the smaller of the two Nani Iro quilts basted, but since I had the backing done I forced myself to finish basting the third one after midnight.

Spray basted inside on carpet. It actually worked out ok. Not much overspray and basically no mess. Top made by Amy, I added the borders. #latergram #collaboration

I’m glad I did because even with spray basting it was a pain. I’m not super happy with the basting job on the larger of the Nani Iro quilts because I couldn’t get the backing really tight (not enough floor space) so it’s a bit wrinkly. It’s for me though, so I can live with it.

3 quilts basted. One top done (and basted). Bed now. #latenight

I’m planning spiral quilting on both of the Nani Iro quilts and possibly a crosshatch for the DS quilt. I’m not sure if I’ll extend it out into the borders or do something different. Opinions?

Anyway, here’s my list!
